STUFFED CAST WORKSHOP IN COOPERATION WITH URBAN ATÖLYE
Stuffed Cast Workshop, organized by the cooperation of IUE Department of Architecture and Urban Atölye, was held on 10-11 March 2018 at D.Makerab.
Stuffed Cast is a two-day workshop engaging with computer-aided architectural design and analog tools to explore new modes of manufacturing. Using fabric form-work and concrete, the workshop offers the unique opportunity to implement digital form-finding methods and fabric forming techniques at 1:1 scale. The aim of the workshop is to create multi-directional tubular concrete structures.
During the fabrication process the complex forms generated by Voronoi and Weaverbird add-ons of Rhino-Grasshopper, were implemented on textile patterns by means of laser-cut after they had been two-dimensionalized. The hollow mold, which had been produced by sewed patterns, were placed in a wooden framework with a pre-defined coordination and stuffed by a filling material. In the final step, the objects were covered with mixtures made of cement, cast, water, and plasticizer.
