FACULTY OF FINE ARTS AND DESIGN
Department of Architecture
Ethics in Design
The pleasure of being a designer is in using your own creativity and ingenuity to develop new and individual works. At the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design academic dishonesty will not be tolerated in any form. Any student engaged in dishonest practices will be disciplined according to University policies. The following constitute unethical behavior and considered as academic dishonesty for a student at Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design.
1. Copying – A student who deliberately appropriates parts or the whole of the work of another and presents it as his/her own work is seen to be copying. Examples of copying include (but are not limited too):
a. Plagiarism, i.e., the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own without giving any reference.
b. Copying design and production drawings, plans, 3D models and audio and video files in any format to use in your project.
c. Duplicating the ideas of others, including your friends and teachers.
2. Contract Cheating – One of our main educational goals is to acquire the skills necessary in the production of professional design works. It is, therefore, unethical under any circumstance to pay or receive money in exchange for the production of required work. Examples of contract cheating include (but are not limited too):
a. Purchasing essays online
b. Hiring someone to prepare presentation materials
c. Hiring someone to provide renderings of a project
d. Hiring someone to build a model
e. Receiving money in exchange for work on a project
