Cities and Buildings are changing. The contemporary city has an exponential increase in population, which results in different forms of vertical agglomeration. High-rise office buildings are one of the responses to population growth and urbanization. At the same time, increasing mobility and the change in technology makes us rethink the workspace in a metropolitan city. The growing popularity of freelance working and mobility provided by new digital communication tools creates an increasing demand for the reinterpretation of the workspace. Mixing work with other activities is a growing demand, which improves productivity and efficiency during work hours. How should be the workspace for the next generation designed? Is the current form of spatial hierarchy appropriate or can breaking the current hierarchy create a better work environment? Can we integrate the workspaces with the community? The aim of the project was to break the standard Office Building ideology and to gain it to the public by creating workplaces and public spaces in collaborating. Thus, the skyscraper serves as the vertical integrity of working spaces and public activities. The design aim is for people to have a balanced life with public and private spaces collaborated with Office spaces, gathering people from all around the World, and work as a response to vertical agglomeration in heart of Central, Hong Kong.
This year ARCH 498 Graduation Project - Section 3 worked on the theme “Vertical Agglomeration-Sky Hub” under the coordination of Lecturer Işık Ülkün Neusser and Lecturer Metin Şahin. The studio looked for innovative proposals for the High-rise office design offering ideas about the future of workspace. It was expected to question sustainability for the design of a skyscraper and developing innovative and creative design strategies for integrating workspaces with public spaces in a High-rise office building.
