FACULTY OF FINE ARTS AND DESIGN
Department of Architecture
Both an architect and archer
Ali Osman Yangöz, a native of Izmir, who quickly improved himself in archery, which he started in middle school and achieved the European championship at the age of 17, did not give up his passion at the university. Studying at the Department of Architecture at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and participating in many tournaments during this period, Yangöz, who had 14 medals in his career, set the goal of being a good architect as well as coaching to train new archers. Yangöz said, “I am interested in architecture, I want to improve myself in this field. But archery is also an indescribable passion and happiness for me. In addition to being a qualified architect, I aim to coach and train young people who will bring new achievements to our country .”
Ali Osman Yangöz (25) who lives in Foça, Izmir, started archery in 2009. Yangöz, who dreamed of being an archer as a child and followed archery on television, enrolled in Archery Sports Club with the support of his family and started to go to training in Halkapınar.
TRAVELED TO HALKAPINAR FROM FOÇA EVERYDAY
The talent of Yangöz, who showed great determination and went from Foça to Halkapınar every day except Sunday and became an athlete of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality after a while, was noticed by his coaches in a short time. Yangöz, who made it to the National Team, returned with the first place in the European Youth Cup held in Romania in 2013. Yangöz, who also holds a championship in All Star Turkish Championship, continued his success in sports in education by enrolling in Izmir University of Economics. Continuing with archery and ranking in various tournaments across Turkey during his undergraduate education, Yangöz previously ranked in first place in the "Institutions Archery Tournament" held last month where he competed on behalf of the Turkish Red Crescent Karşıyaka Branch of which he is a volunteer.
WE ARE A SPORTS FAMILY
Getting ready to graduate from the university this year, Yangöz said that sports are very determinant in his success in education. Yangöz said, “My father is a former athlete and a wrestler. My brother also has sports experience in many fields. I can say that we are prone to sports as a family. When I was younger, I used to play football and basketball a lot, but I was especially interested in individual sports. My family encouraged me to become an athlete, supported me in everything and paved my way to the European championship.”
I DO NOT INTEND TO RETIRE
Yangöz stated the following: “I study in a department that I like and want in university. I plan to do my profession after graduation. I am looking forward to putting the knowledge I gained at the university into practice. While doing all these, I will continue in archery individually. I have no intention of retiring from archery while doing architecture. Another goal of mine is to contribute to the training of young people in this field. I am currently guiding and supporting many people around me in this area. As a coach, I want to raise young people professionally. Archery is a sport that strengthens motivation, increases self-confidence, always develops the person, and teaches how to use the body. People of different ages as well as young people can be interested in archery.”
