IUE FFAD Department of Architecture hosts Wolf D. Prix, co-founder of COOPHIMMELB(L)AU!
As Department of Architecture, we are honored to host Wolf D. Prix, co-founder, design principal, and CEO of Coop Himmelb(l)au with a seminar entitled "The Himmelb(l)au Project". Coop Himmelb(l)au has a specific method employed in their design process. This seminar will be about how their approach to design has been developed from 1968 to today. The seminar will be available online on the İzmir University of Economics YouTube channel on the 16th of June, 18.30.
Wolf D. Prix, born in 1942 in Vienna is founding partner, Design Director, and CEO of COOP HIMMELB(L)AU since 1968. From 1990-2011 Wolf D. Prix has been Professor for Architecture at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria. Wolf D. Prix received numerous international awards including the Great Austrian State Award and the Austrian Decoration of Honor for Science and Art. He ranks among the co-founders of the deconstructivist architecture movement.
COOP HIMMELBLAU operates in the fields of art, architecture, urban planning, and design. The studio is based in Vienna and Los Angeles with projects worldwide. The work represents a wide variety of scales and typologies, in numerous countries the team has realized museums, concert halls, science, and office buildings as well as residential buildings. The office was invited eight times to participate in the Venice Architecture Biennale. The company’s most well-known international projects include the Falkestrasse attic conversion in Vienna, the BMW Welt in Munich, the Akron Art Museum in Ohio, the Central Los Angeles Area High School #9 for the Visual and Performing Arts, the Busan Cinema Center in Korea and the Dalian International Conference Center in China and the House of Music in Aalborg, Denmark, the Musée des Confluences in Lyon, France, the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, the Museum of Contemporary Art & Planning Exhibition (MOCAPE) in Shenzhen, China, and the PANEUM – Wunderkammer des Brotes in Asten, Austria.
