3 dimensional ‘art’ invited to Belgium

Created by a team of 13 people from Izmir University of Economics (IUE), the ‘Dijital Darağaç’, one of Izmir's first three-dimensional virtual art museums, was selected as an exemplary project by the authorities in Belgium and invited to the world-famous Johan Verbeke International Exhibition. The Dijital Darağacı, which will be a source of inspiration for people who aim to bring their art to large masses, and which consists of the works of 70 artists and includes 10 exhibitions, can be downloaded to a smart phone and visited with a mobile application.
A team of 13 people, who came together under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Güzden Varinlioğlu, Faculty Member of Department of Architecture, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), implemented the ‘Dijital Darağaç’ project last year. The team aiming to open a virtual window to art; worked meticulously on all the details, including software, design, work selection, and artists.
Working in collaboration with the Darağaç Collective, a collective located in the Umurbey Neighborhood of Alsancak established by non-profit artists, IUE team brought the virtual museum together with art lovers. The project, which managed to attract the attention of art lovers in a short time, was entitled to be exhibited at the Johan Verbeke International Exhibition, which was organized as part of the 40th European Computer Aided Architectural Design and Education Conference, which will take place in Ghent, Belgium, on September 13-15.
SELECTED AMONG MULTIPLE PROJECTS
Expressing that the interest in virtual tour and virtual museum studies has increased with the pandemic, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Varinlioğlu said that Dijital Darağaç has been a project that meets the need in this sense. Stating that all works can be seen in 3D thanks to the Dijital Darağaç, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Varinlioğlu stated the following: “The Conference on Education and Research in Computer Aided Architectural Design in Europe is a world-renowned program. It takes place every year with the participation of thousands of people from different countries. The Johan Verbeke International Exhibition is also held within the scope of this conference. However, the projects invited here are selected with great care among many criteria. Dijital Darağaç is a work made with devotion and a lot of effort. We are very happy that Dijital Darağaç was chosen among the projects around the world and opened to the international arena. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the realization of the project.”
STRONG TEAM
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Güzden Varinlioglu undertook the architectural coordination of the project, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kaya Oğuz undertook the computer engineering, and Research Assistant Doruk Türkmen undertook the visual communication design of the project. Other people involved in the project were Furkan Sinan Üğütmen, Nezihe Gökçe Kökcan, Pakize İrem Ercan, Nermin Merve Tokgöz, Gözde Damla Turhan, Kutay Otan, Tuğcan Önbaş, Hakkı Ekmel Ertan, Dünya Kılavuz, and Mehmet Emin Çeşitli.
